Programmatic Requirements
In addition to required and elective coursework, learners are required to satisfy programmatic requirements. Learners must create and continuously develop professional electronic portfolios throughout the professional program, beginning in the first year. Learners will be required to develop and utilize the portfolio to document professional experiences (e.g., meetings, activities, assignments) and community service; and self-reflect and assess learning activities and experiences. The learners’ academic advisors will review the portfolio, provide feedback, and assess the portfolios.
Community service, citizenship, advocacy, and leadership are signature features of the School of Pharmacy’s program, as evident in its mission and the Core Competencies. Learners are required to complete 20 hours of community service and attend a minimum of two (2) professional meetings (science, healthcare, or pharmacy) per year during academic calendar of PY1-PY3. Learners will document these activities in their portfolios and their faculty academic advisors will review the portfolios. Learners may not progress in the program until these requirements are satisfied each academic year. Dean’s Seminar is a noncredit seminar series held at least twice per semester and is required of all learners in PY1-PY3. The seminar invites learners, faculty, administration, practitioners, and guests to engage in discussion of contemporary healthcare issues such as leadership, community and global engagement, public policy, healthcare reform, and professionalism.
Required annual benchmarking exams will be scheduled at the beginning of each academic year PY1-PY3 to provide learners with formative feedback. These results of these assessments will also be used to assist the faculty in the curricular review process.
