Testing Business Skills: College to Host Junior
Achievement Stock Market Challenge Nov. 4

stockmktchallenge10gifOn November 4, Rivers Memorial Hall will become Wall Street for a day. Junior Achievement and Western New England College will host the first-ever College Stock Market Challenge from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Competitors, volunteers, and corporate sponsors for student teams are needed. Students and alumni are invited to the college/business networking event from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Teams from throughout the region will compete in this high-tech stock market simulation. The challenge: see who can amass the highest net-worth by the end of the investing period. In this fast-paced, high stakes competition, teams compete through 60 trading days in one hour—a new trading day every minute. View the video.

New: Campus Leaders Reunion, Martial Arts, and Road Race

sparksalumnews1gifComedian Hal Sparks, known for his roles in Talk Soup, Queer as Folk and Dude, Where’s My Car? will perform during the College’s 2010 Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, October 2. Tickets to the 8:00 p.m. show at the Alumni Healthful Living Center (AHLC) cost $10 and are available at the registration tent in front of the Campus Utilities Building (CUB) and at the door. Additions to the Homecoming schedule include the “Campus Leaders Back on Campus” event on October 2. Our Lady of the Law School

[View our historic photo archives.] In the late 1960s and early 1970s, enrollment at the School of Law increased dramatically, so the College’s Board of Trustees set up the Law School Study Committee to investigate the viability of a full time day program. This program opened in 1973, but because no proper facility was available on the Western New England College campus, the School was housed first in downtown Springfield and then at the former Our Lady of Lourdes School (above) on Tinkham Road in the city's Sixteen Acres neighborhood. Students referred to this building as “Our Lady of the Law School.” (Read More)

[View our online historic photo archives.] On April 11, with the help of an Alumni Association grant, the LaRiviere Living and Learning Center held a celebration in honor of its 10th anniversary. Above is a photo from residence hall’s dedication in August of 1999. Pictured are then-Trustee Chairman Thomas R. Burton ’70, College President Anthony S. Caprio, Marian LaRiviere, and Trustee Alfred A. LaRiviere ’51/H’95/H’01. Al LaRiviere died on July 17 at the age of 93. The LaRivieres, who have four endowed scholarships named for them, have been longtime benefactors of the College. (Read More)
